Frederick is a former Outward Bound instructor and nationally recognized magazine writer and editor based in Portland, Oregon. His publication credits include Men’s Journal, Outside, National Geographic Adventure, Sports Illustrated, Plenty, Skiing, Canoe and Kayak, Portland Monthly and Oregon Quarterly magazines.
Frederick began his editing career at the Jackson Hole News, where he served as the special sections editor and associate editor of the Jackson Hole Daily from 2000 to 2001. As the Managing Editor of Paddler Magazine (2001-2004), he wrote, planned and edited nearly every word of the bimonthly and resurrected the twice-yearly glossy Kayak. In 2004, he was recruited to overhaul and re-design Canoe and Kayak, the world’s largest paddlesports magazine. He hired and supervised a lean staff of four and steered the publication into the 21st century, reversing the trend of a diminishing circulation. Frederick is available for freelance editing projects, capable of guiding your print project from conception to publication.
